Beach Fun

After few postponements, we finally made it to the beach! I hear that we picked a good day since today and tomorrow was suppose to be the hottest days. Anyway, we went to Newport Beach. There was a good crowd of people but everyone knew their places and so everyone was able to enjoy the beach. David loved running and splashing near the shore. He'd venture to the water a little further only to quickly run back when the waves near him. Sophia took a short dip and walk in the water. The water was often cold but welcoming none-the-less. It was a wonderful afternoon spent together as a family.

Happy Birthday Mon!!

Happy Birthday to my sister-in-law, Monica. She turned 40 something yesterday, but she looks 20 so here's 20 things I love about her:

The Bigger Picture

A couple of months ago, I joined a book club so as to start reading again. For some reason, reading doesn't come easy to me. I mean, I know how to read but the interest isn't there. I want to be a book worm. I want my mind filled with good stories, vocabularies, ... knowledge. I want continued nourishment of mind. My heart is strong, now I need my mind to be just as strong. Anyway, I enjoyed our first book but last month's book was just not working for me. To my surprise and relief so with a few others. I didn't want to go into our meeting having not read anything so I ended up picking up a book in Dave's book case, "An Ordinary Camp" by Micheline Maurel. It tells of the author's account of her experiences in a concentration camp. There she endured so much and through hope and decency of few people she was able to hold on long enough to see it "end". The modesty in detailing her account was powerful enough to make the reader aware that inhumanity of intense proportion exists. She finding no use in punishing a few men or an entire nation, being the harm is done, so "... who should answer for so horrible a destruction of all human life, who should answer for it, if not God Himself?" My understanding of her declaration, I can see the reason she would call on God. After all, He is all powerful. But I think in some sense she forgot the power of Satan. Not negating the agony she and many others went through because they DO have the sense of the evil power. I'm just saying that Satan is the motivator. He tempts, he is sneaky, he exists to have us choose evil... Could this be your scenario, life is wonderful then life throws you a curb ball and boom! it couldn't possibly be worse. But, Heavenly Father knows the bigger picture so that's why He has given us instructions through scriptures, prophets, priesthood, and personal revelation via the Holy Ghost. He has given us the Savior to follow. Our choices brings about consequences so He has made it simple for us to not get so messed up. Choose the right. We often forget our worth to our god, after all we are His children. Will you send your kids out in the world without any guidance? Not following the commandments/instructions can destroy people. That's why we are told not to gossip, not to commit adultery, not to abuse (people, drugs), and so on. If we convince ourselves we're just hurting ourselves, then we're wrong! Why would you want to hurt yourself in the first place? All Satan's tricks! And the biggest trick of all is having us believe we've reach a point of no return so what's the use. Absolutely not true! There's a way through Christ, hurray!! OK, getting back to the book. She pretty much gives us the purpose of life: "Isn't it so? What did we ask of the living when we were like the dead? To think of us? To pray for us? Yes, a little, in the beginning. But mainly to do all they could to send us material help, and then, when they had done all they could, oh above all, to enjoy life to the fullest! We so often cried out to them, 'Be happy, be happy! Be happy, you who eat, and you who expect alms and receive them. Be happy, you who live in fine apartments, in ugly houses or in hovel. Be happy, you who have your loved ones, and you also who sit alone and dream and can weep. Be happy, you who torture yourself over metaphysical problems, and you who suffer because of money worries. Be happy, all of you: millions of people envy you'".

Brace yourself!

OK, it's for a good cause. It's been a couple of Thanksgivings ago since I last donated and my hair was long enough now so I thought, why not put it to good use again. So, I had 10 inches of my hair chopped off! I will then send it to Locks of Love to benefit someone that needs it. For those of you who have or have had long hair and had it cut dramatically might understand my apprehension when the hairstylist started to cut my hair! I wasn't very good at carrying my beautiful hair but I missed them just the same. But, that's not all. I've been wanting to color my hair for a little splash in my look so, I told Vanessa (the hairstylist) to highlight my hair with whatever she thought my fit my skin tone and viola! Quite a shocker! More blonde than I'm use to--certainly on me! I think they were suppose to be light brown, but I think with juggling 4 of us, she must have left me on a little too long, plus color tend to set in quite quickly on me so that didn't help. But! I looked at it again, this time with openness and convinced myself that I liked it. Overall, I really do. She did a good job. It might be a little too light for me, but I think I can pull it off -- just smile a lot. Of course, Dave won't be home 'til late tonight so that's another apprehension. He's not going to be happy but he's also not going to say anything bad. Afterall, it'll grow out.BeforeAfter

A week in review including David's haircut

My 9mos check-up at my doctor's office. I weighed 17lbs. 11oz & was 28 1/2 in. tall. I was happy during this picture but surely not after my shot at the end!

Celebrated Tia's (my neice) 13th birthday early with a swim party at my sister's. We had a ball!!!

DAVID GETS A HAIRCUT!

Can't believe he finally agreed to have his hair cut! But of course with conditions; just scissors, no buzzers & the lure was that they'd give him a "space" comb (Meet the Robinsons). --This is a before picture. --I told the lady to cut his hair short but long enough that his curls would still show.
During the cut picture. ---You should have heard him! He was chit-chatting away like crazy with the hair stylist. It was precious! I forgot to take the after picture in the salon so here he is outside complaining of the heat!David playing with few of the neighbor kids. His usual playmates moved & the others didn't come out & play today.

The Flypapers have arrived!

Boy, was David happy to see the package on our porch this afternoon! He's been asking all week last week, "Is it 7 to 10 days yet, Mom?". It did arrive a bit late. If it hadn't come today I was prepared to call Hasbro and ask, "What's up?". Anyway, David did pretty good with his goals, so up the Flypapers they went. I also ordered a couple of action figures to lure him to continue his goals for later. Of course, he got a hold of one and opened it behind my back! "Sorry, Mom" he whimpered. I suppose he had selective hearing when I told him that he may open one of the Flypapers. Oh well. He's a happy kid, so I'm a happy mom. --By the way, he picked out his clothes today and of course it had to be Batman! Perhaps later they might get lost in the laundry. Also, when Grandma finds out that he's more into Transformers than Batman then will Batman surely fade away and collections of Transformers will really pile up!
