Beach Time

David's teacher invited his students to meet at Corona Del Mar State Beach last Saturday to learn about the ocean and erosion for Earth Science.  It wasn't a school sanctioned field trip so no staff supervision was provided.  Dave took the day off and we made it a family trip.

David enjoyed the educational tour with his teacher and few classmates but and it was the dips in the beach waters that put big bright smiles on his face and skip in his steps.  The same goes for Sophia.  Steven however was not much into getting wet so he just stayed ashore enjoying the sights and some Oreo cookies.  ~Whoa, there were tons of people that day!

By the way, the day before, David went to the doctor's and was diagnosed with an ear infection and put on an antibiotic.  Doctor said it was alright to go to the beach but not to get wet above the waist.  Didn't happen!  David misjudged a wave and it went over his head and knocked him down!  Scared him but soon after he was back in the water ..with me reminding him about his ear.

We had a great time.  Afterwards we went to Outback Steakhouse for dinner.  Thanks Mr. P. for another excuse to have a family beach day (we went to Laguna Beach just before back to school).

Thoughtful David

David is such a sweetie!  Last week when he received his first allowance for the school year, he bought a couple of "Smencils" (scented pencils) at school.  Sophia saw him buy them and wanted to buy one too but she didn't bring her money.  David was a dear and gave her a dollar so she can purchase one as well.  He didn't ask for the money back when they got home.  What a nice brother!

At home, David asked me for a ribbon and to borrow my hole puncher.  I didn't know then that he purchased the Smencils and he was secretive about the reason for the requests.  Well, he has seen me many many times doing such gift tags and wouldn't you know it, he handed me this gift tagged cherry-vanilla scented "I love you" Smencil.  Aww, I love him too!!

So you may ask, "What's up with the Harry Potter?".  Well, I've been such an awful blogger and didn't share all the many little sweet notes/gifts from David (it has rubbed off on Sophia too because she does the same thing) but wanted to be sure to capture this big gift.  He knows how much I love Harry Potter books so he jumped at the opportunity to get this audio cassette book for me.  But the big thing about it is that he earned it!  At school (3rd grade) the students earn pebbles for a variety of reasons.  Then later they use them to buy something in the teacher's treasure box.  This book cost 60 pebbles.  That's a lot of good deeds!  No surprise that it was my favorite Christmas gift last year.  :)

I'm such a blessed mama to have a very thoughtful, loving boy!  ~My other two are wonderful as well!  Thank you Heavenly Father for entrusting them to us.

Artwork

At "Back to School Night" a week and half ago, parents got to formally meet their child's teacher.  Sophia's class prepared a guess who portrait for their parents that was hung around in the classroom.  Now, isn't this just a spittin' image of my little girl?  It was an easy spot for me.  The, "I love to read" was a dead giveaway  ..and the hair (hehe).  That's my girl!!!  :)

*Wrinkled because she stuffed it in her backpack!*

I have brown eyes.
I have brown hair.
I am a girl.
I love to read.
Who am I? Sophia (this wasn't filled in at the BTSN)

Speaking of Back to School Night.  We had a scare that evening.  Sophia, being her active self, fell off the chair and bumped her head on the hard floor in the middle of her teacher's speech!  Wow, did she have a huge lump.  Of course I monitored her closely that night and prayed she's be alright.  Surely didn't want another E.R. trip.  She was back to her 100% self by morning.  Thank heavens.

Sorry we missed your baby shower Summer.  I had to take Sophia straight home and keep a close eye on her.  Thanks for understanding.

First Day of School

It's official.  We have a 1st and 4th grader in the house!  Yeap, today was the first day back to school for these munchkins.  Hallelujah!!  Yes, you read that right.  I'm so glad they're back!  This summer was exhausting!!  I'll have to catch up on the happenings later.  Anyway, they were pretty happy with their teachers.  David actually got the teacher he wanted.  Sophia described her teacher as funny and nice.  Happy that they're off to a good start.  Speaking of start, last night my home teachers came over to give the kids a blessing to start off the school year.  It was a last minute indirect request (facebooked a wife to hint to her hubby, my HT) and they came through for us!  Actually one of the men was our official home teacher while the other came to fill-in for the other.  Both I'm sure were tired and ready for bed but they came to see to our need first.  Love the priesthood!  Thanks Brother F. and C.!  You guys are awesome!!  I even sneaked in for a blessing too. :)  ..btw, Steven wasn't in the mood for company so he was off in another room playing and missed the whole event.

We were cutting it very close to making it on time for school so these were the only snaps that I was able to manage getting before we took off.  I have a few of Sophia in her class on my phone but I haven't figured out how to upload pictures from there yet. Anywho, here are our cuties!! :D

Our cool 4th grader.

Yes, she had to sport her Justin Bieber shirt ..she's growing too fast!
